This part of the Camino de Santiago begins in Pamplona (Iruña in Basque), renowned for its July San Fermín bull run. Thousands flock to the city each year to witness the exhilarating and iconic running of the bulls festival. From Pamplona, the Camino leads to the striking pilgrim sculpture at Alto del Perdón, offering breathtaking 360-degree views. Before continuing onward, you can take in panoramic vistas of Pamplona, the surrounding valley, and the expansive countryside.
On this Camino stretch, you’ll cross Navarra’s mountains and La Rioja’s red-earth vineyards, rich in scenic natural beauty. You’ll pass medieval bridges, ancient castles, historic churches, and charming villages like Puente de la Reina, Cirauqui, Estella-Lizarra, and Viana. You can stop at Bodegas Irache for a rest and a quick sip at the free wine fountain! This is one of the many highlights of the Camino, where you will meet other pilgrims!
This Camino stretch ends in Logroño, La Rioja’s capital, a wonderful place to enjoy authentic Spanish tapas and culture. You may split the walk over two days on your final day for a more relaxed pace. This allows extra time to unwind and take in the beautiful scenery along the way. We highly recommend spending a night in Viana if you have another day. This is an unmissable town with much to love for history buffs and those interested in colonial Spain.
