New in 2019, the Sea of Arousa Camino Walk & Boat is a wonderful and scenic Camino trail, which is also known by the names of Traslatio and Variante Espiritual. This Camino tour combines walking in the beautiful coastal region of O Salnes with a boat trip across the Ria de Arousa and up the River Ulla all the way to Padron, believed to be where the boat carrying St James first landed in Galicia.
This Camino trail takes pilgrims through an area of great natural beauty, picturesque villages and medieval heritage. Starting from Baiona, the route takes you to the stunning coastal town of Combarro, Armenteira Monastery where resident nuns sing Pilgrim Mass every day, and along superb natural trails all the way to Vilanova de Arousa, where you will catch your boat to Padrón.
Padrón is the hometown of Galicia’s most acclaimed poet, Rosalía de Castro, as well as the best place to try the world-famous local Padron peppers. The final stretch of the route will bring you into Santiago de Compostela on the classic Camino Portugues. If you’d like to receive the Compostela certificate in Santiago, you will have to at least start the Camino in Vigo.
