Each year Phil Cawley of Today FM fame offers listeners the chance to take off on an amazing adventure walking the Camino de Santiago.
The Cawley Camino team of intrepid walkers follow in the footsteps of Irish medieval pilgrims as they make their way to wonderful Santiago de Compostela and its famous cathedral, in Galicia.
Since that first trek in 2015, the Cawley Camino has become an annual adventure for Today FM’s most intrepid listeners.
Phil and the team have tackled different Camino routes since: They’ve walked the famous Camino Frances from Sarria, the pilgrims’ favourite starting point; the Camino Portugues from Tui along vineyards and hamlets; and the Camino Ingles from Ferrol, the classic route taken by Irish medieval pilgrims.
In 2018, Phil set himself the ultimate challenge: not one but three Camino adventures!
In June, the Cawley Camino took the team to spectacular Tuscany in Italy. Phil’s crew will be walked from San Miniato to Siena, in Tuscany, along the ancient Via Francigena pilgrim trail, also known as the Camino to Rome.
In September 2018, the Cawley Camino crew tackled the Portuguese Coastal Camino from Vigo, in the Rias Baixas of Galicia, famous for its white wine and delicious seafood. Fantastic views of Vigo Bay kick started the adventure before taking to the vineyard-lined country tracks of Southern Galicia. The chosen charity for this year’s trip was Pieta House.
In October, the Cawley Camino returned to the most famous Camino route: the Camino Frances, to walk the last stretch from Sarria. Along the way the group met fellow pilgrims from all over the world, as they walked Galicia’s green and lush countryside and enjoyed the fun atmosphere of the Camino classic trail.
All of the routes chosen for the Cawley Camino are suitable for all ages and all fitness levels; in addition, the team will travel with professional guides. If you are considering joining the trip in 2019, talk to the CaminoWays.com team and we will provide you with the right advice and tips.
There is no strangers on the Cawley Camino, only friends we haven’t met yet and most walkers on the Cawley Camino trip have made lifelong friends. Make sure you pack your comfiest walking shoes and best smile, as plenty of laughter and fun is always guaranteed on the Cawley Camino.
Dates for 2019 will be announced soon, join Phil on his adventures!
