Camino Video: St. Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona | Camino Frances
Enjoy this Camino video of the first section of the Camino Frances, St. Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona.
This is one of the most varied and picturesque sections of the Camino de Santiago.
Pilgrims on this section will pass through breathtaking countrysides and woodlands, through rolling green hills, charming villages so it’s no wonder that the Camino Frances is the most popular of all the Camino routes. It is also the most social route and where you will meet lots of like-minded pilgrims.
St. Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona
The walled village of St Jean Pied de Port in the French Basque country is the starting point of the Camino Francés.
This picturesque village, although small, is anything but lacking in energy. The general atmosphere is one of excitement as Pilgrims begin preparing themselves for the journey ahead.
In a normal year, as many as 20,000 people set foot on their Camino journey from this point every year, making it one of the most popular starting points of the Camino Frances.
Pilgrims leave Saint Jean Pied de Port via the Roncesvalles Pass. Pilgrims are then taken through woodlands over the French/Spanish border before descending into Roncesvalles.
This section of the Camino famously crosses the Pyrenees and as you can see, the views are simply breathtaking.
Section one of the Camino Francés finishes up in Pamplona home to the world-famous festival of San Fermin, the running of the bulls. The festival takes place every year in July but there are many things to do and see in the city of Pamplona all year round.
