Favourite Camino: Pontesampaio
CaminoWays.com staff members get asked about their favourite Camino de Santiago spots or places along the way. With this in mind, each member of the team is sharing his/her particular place on the Camino they feel it is special to them. Second of the series is Sabela, from the CaminoWays.com Sales and Customer Care team. Her chosen Camino spot is Pontesampaio, on the last section of the Portuguese Way.
Hello my name is Sabela and I work in the Sales Department of CaminoWays.com.
So today I am going to talk to you about the Portuguese Way which I completed two years and half ago just before moving to Ireland. It was section five from Tui to Santiago de Compostela and I did it with my sister. It was in March more or less. It was very nice because it wasn’t as crowded as the French Way but you can still find some pilgrims on the way. The walk was incredible. We were walking through farmlands and very small paths and very small villages and people were really nice, always trying to help the pilgrims. I was really surprised about a small village in the section Arcade to Pontevedra, which was called Pontesampaio. It was a really nice village, very small with the Verdugo River, the bridge, and all the history in such small place and also the landscape from the Bay of Vigo. It was just amazing, being able to see the Atlantic Ocean while we were walking. Well, I am from Pontevedra myself and I didn’t know we had such nice villages just so near my city. So if you do this section of the Portuguese Camino, I would advice you try the ‘ostras’ in Arcade, oysters in English. This village is really famous because of that and there is a very famous international festival there that is worth visiting.
