Today FM Phil Cawley Camino
On Tuesday 22nd September, Today FM DJ and presenter Phil Cawley is embarking on a second Camino with his good friend Eamonn and a keen group of Today FM listeners. As they get ready for their adventure on the Camino Portugues from Tui to Santiago de Compostela, Phil has a few words of wisdom to share!
by Phil Cawley
The genesis for this trip came from a conversation with my friend, mentor, wingman and life coach Eamonn. We had travelled to the Portuguese Camino two years ago and wished to return, not to apologize I might add, rather to repeat the unique experience. This is where you all come in. I wanted to see if it was just me that experienced that ‘Camino feeling’, or is it open to all? So I decided to give my Today FM listeners an opportunity to join me. We thought maybe 10 people would come. We had to stop sign-on’s at 30.
When you walk through the Spanish countryside you are gifted with serene beauty and most importantly time in which to reflect without any outside disturbances. I switched my phone off last time and anyone who has ever experienced withdrawal symptoms will know how that felt; but it was eased somewhat by what I gained in serenity. I hope you will experience this moment in time on your trip.
During the week I will add some entertainment and include my famous pub quiz. The people at CaminoWays.com will put up a fab prize for the winning team.
Eamonn will be doing a daily blog and sharing pictures for the CaminoWays.com and Today FM websites. Another buddy Hubert will also join us. He’s my neighbour and sometimes bodyguard. I like to think of him as being a cross between McGyver and Yogi Bear!
I’m excited to meet the whole team in Dublin Airport. Only one week to go! I hope you’re all getting a few miles in.
You can tune in to the Today FM Phil Cawley Show on Saturday and Sunday. He will be chatting about the team’s progress on the Camino so don’t miss it!
