The Camino Walk Song
A group of outgoing retired Irish teachers walked the last 100km of the Camino de Santiago with CaminoWays.com recently. The group had a fantastic time and have created their own Camino de Santiago song about their holiday. Thanks to the group for sharing their experience on the Camino and their lyrics!:
(to the air of These Boots Are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra)
Performed by Midlands Rosie and the Walkabouts
We’re are teachers looking for adventure
We‘ve replaced the chalk with the walk
We are off to Spain on a mission
To complete the Camino Walk
Chorus
Our boots are made for walking
And that’s just what we’ll do
Very soon the Camino Walk will be one less thing to do
Rose MK started with the planning
Camino Ways helped to get us there
Maggie L got us fit and ready
Slacking off was an option we could not dare
Chorus
Up and down Corn Hill we started training
Ennybeg’s Church soon dropped out of sight
Some were brave and did it while it was raining
And hopefully that training will see us right
Chorus
Teachers joined us from all over Ireland
Dublin, Laoise, Cork and Mayo
Camino Moves became the new sensation
And walking became the new way to go
Chorus
Experts came and briefed us on our journey
On what to wear and what to bring along
Pat with Pipes promised some good music
Our journey will be remembered in this song
Chorus
Some of us decided to start Camino early
By going up to Dublin to the Church of St. James
The welcome we received was most encouraging
And certainly reaffirmed the Camino aims
Chorus
23 of April came quickly upon us
Our bags were packed with blister busting cream
Hip flasks were another consideration
Filled with Wine and Teachers oh one can dream
Chorus
Tuesday night found us in Sarria
Where Pat the Doc sourced a great place to eat
Food and drink a plenty for 8.5€
Meson Tapeas we recommend for a treat
Chorus
Wednesday we set off for Pontmarian
We witnessed Camino Spirit at first hand
Helping hands were extended by Corkonians
To ensure all our group reached the promised land
Chorus
Thursday saw us set high standards
Mountains become hills when we climb
Our nurses helped set right a footless teacher
Co-operation became the Camino Rhyme
Chorus
At dinner we sat down with Portuguese students
Very quickly our two countries were having fun
Patricia Alexandra became the conduit
To make us play and act as one
Chorus
Friday was a day of mixed adventures
28 Ks were put firmly in their place
Limericks became the new source of aggravation
With teachers busting guts trying to save face
Chorus
Saturday was a day when rolls reversed
With late night drinking/singing taking its toll
Spirits rose when we met Anne in Amenal
Our Camino group was just 16 Ks from its goal
Chorus
Sunday we started off walking early
Santiago de Compostela soon came into view
Our Portuguese friends, in the evening, bid their farewells
No doubt someday our friendship we will renew.
Chorus
Germans replaced Portuguese on the last night
People sang who never knew they had a voice
Wine flowed freely but sadly there was no line danced
Rose MK for president was the peoples’ choice.
