The fifth and last section of the Paris & Tours Camino de Santiago starts in the lovely city of Bordeaux and ends in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, near the Spanish border, where pilgrims can join the French Way.
Pilgrims start their journey from Bordeaux, capital of this famous wine-making region, known all over the world for its fine wines; walking through vineyards before arriving at the foot of the Pyrenees. This is a relatively easy section of the Paris Camino, although the last stretch into St Jean does require some effort.
Starting from the suburbs of Bordeaux you will cross scenic countryside through fields and vineyards. The many churches, abbeys and streets with the name of Saint James will remind you all the way that you are indeed on the road to Santiago de Compostela. You will pass magnificent cities such as Dax before arriving in Saint-Jean–Pied-de-Port, the last town in France and starting point of the famous French Way to Santiago.
