The Camino de Santiago at Boyle Arts Festival

camino-santiago-shellBoyle Arts Festival is currently taking place in County Roscommon, in Ireland. As part of the busy programme of cultural events the festival is hosting a talk about the Camino de Santiago, presented by director and Camino de Santiago expert Roland Monsegu.

The Camino de Santiago is the first European Cultural itinerary (listed by UNESCO since 1987) and has become a very popular cultural experience for travellers both in Ireland and abroad. Pilgrim number 100,000 for 2013 arrived in Santiago last week and Irish pilgrims accounted for 2% of the pilgrims receiving the Compostela certificate in 2012. Many travel to Santiago every year as an act of faith but many also take the Camino de Santiago as an unique spiritual and cultural experience. Roland will focus on the historic and cultural aspects of the many different routes of the Camino de Santiago: from the famous French Way, captured in film in The Way, to other less known routes to Compostela.

Tickets for the event cost €6 and can be purchased from
