The Via Francigena is the common name of an ancient road and pilgrim route running from France to Rome. It was not a single road, it actually comprised of several routes that changed over the centuries along with trade and pilgrimage. Depending on the time of year, the political situation, and the relative popularity of the shrines of the saints situated along the route, travellers may have used any of the three or four crossings of the Alps and the Apennines. Sophia’s trek will take participants through the last 100kms of the Via Francigena, starting in medieval Viterbo and finishing in Rome. Each participant will receive a ‘Testimonium’ of pilgrimage to the Eternal City.
If you’d prefer to join Sophia on the iconic Ben Nevis Trek from 4th – 7th July next, exploring the fabulous Scottish countryside and reaching the highest point in Great Britain, then this might be the event for you. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of €995.
Funds raised will help Sophia Housing continue to provide housing and support to marginalised families and individuals who, for any number of reasons, find themselves out of their own home.
