Some Positive Highlights from 2020

Despite the difficulties of the year, 2020 gave us time to reflect on how we could improve the business for our clients.

  • Better Customer Experience

In April 2020 we began to improve our website to provide more information on COVID-19 and travel.

We made continued changes to the way we operate to improve the overall service to our clients.

Check out all the changes we have made in 2020 here: How we improved our customer experience in 2020.

  • Hotels on the Camino

One great thing that came from 2020 is that in May we had time to get in touch with many of our hotels and suppliers on the Camino.

We were able to check in with them to see how they were getting on and what measures they were taking to be “COVID-ready” for guests next year.

In 2020, we spoke to hotels in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France.

Last week we spoke to Ana, who runs a hotel on the Camino Frances. Watch her video message here.

  • Camino Walks

In July we restarted our Camino Preparation Walks with our first 8 KM walk for St. James’ Day (July 25th) in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

We will hope to resume our Camino preparation walks in early 2021 so keep an eye on our Eventbrite Page and social channels for upcoming events.

  • Camino Talks

In August we restarted our webinars series with information talks on the Camino every month.

We used Facebook Live and got a great response from our audience where we were able to answer questions directly.

You can watch all presentations from 2020 here: Camino Live Webinars 2020.

And keep an eye on our Facebook Page for upcoming Camino Talks.

  • Johnny Walker

From August to September, famous pilgrim Johnny Walker travelled with Caminoways.com on the Camino Frances.

It took Johnny and his friend Stephen Shields 33 days to walk 775 KM which is an amazing achievement. You can read about their journey here.

Johnny and Stephen undertook this walk on behalf of everyone who could not walk in 2020 and we were very glad to support Johnny to do this through our Greenlife Fund.

Johnny Walker also gave us a special Camino update from Santiago in November.

We hope that it inspires you to undertake your own challenge and walk the Camino in 2021.

  • Great Customer Reviews

We are very grateful that we were able to send some clients to the Camino in 2020 where a warm welcome awaited them.

We are even more grateful that we got some really great feedback so thank you!

These are some of our favourite Trip Advisor reviews from 2020:

“This was the most amazing trip ever! The scenery is absolutely stunning from beginning to end. Camino Ways gave me excellent advice before I left and organised the whole trip perfectly. I can’t recommend the Rota Vicentina or Camino Ways highly enough! What are you waiting for? Do this walk! :-))” (BevJo, July 2020)

“For the sixth year in a row I bought a walking trip from Camino Ways. And as usual I returned very satisfied with the overall organization, the accommodation and food. As the arrangements by Camino Ways were so good, my part was only to walk from one place to another without worries.” (Addo Arason, Iceland, Sep 2020)

“Fantastic Camino journey during Covid-19. Walk through rural Spain. We booked with CaminoWays last January, and we got a personalised itinerary and. When we had questions, there was always someone to respond quickly.

Once in Spain we were picked up at the airport by their team and brought to my hotel. We were even given a bottle of water! Every hotel seems to know CaminoWays, it gave me confidence that we were in good hands.

At one point our luggage was late, so we called the assistance number, got an immediate response and the issue was fixed.

For the Camino walk, we received an ebook, with some general information about the Camino, detailed day to day program… It was great, just very simple to use on our smart phones.
We also received a link to a Google map, so we could navigate on our smart phone without getting lost. I am not so good at reading paper maps, so it was most welcome. It was also very useful to find the hotels, as they are not always in plain sight.

July on the Camino was strange, because of Covid-19. There was very little pilgrims and some cafe and restaurants were closed. But I always felt safe, most welcome and friendship on the Camino is legendary.

Thanks Camino Ways, I will comeback next year!” (John, UK , July 2020)
