Myself and my wonderful daughter Alex made a pact several years ago that we would do the Camino when a suitable opportunity arose in the future. The idea was parked for numerous reasons while we both got on with our lives. However, the opportunity came around quite suddenly when I was laid off from my job after 44 years of service. We had originally planned to do the French Way but I was unable to book flights from Dublin at short notice. The guys at Camino Ways suggested the Portuguise Camino as an alternative. I booked the flights and Camino Ways literally did everything else. We commence our Camino from Porto in early October and it was simply wonderful. Many hours of chats about everything and nothing. There was a little pain but a lot of joy. There were some tears and lots of laughter. We met many, many fellow pilgrims and listened to many, many stories. It was humbling. On our completion I asked Alex what what would she take away from this experience. Her reply will stay with me forever…she said “Our Camino has only just started…the greatest journey of our lives”. Buen Camino.
