Festivals on the Camino in November

caminoways-ourense-magostoNovember is a month to celebrate the arrival of winter on the Camino de Santiago: jazz, tapas, mushrooms, chestnuts, cinema… don’t pack your pilgrim bags yet, there is still plenty to do, see and taste! These are some of the best festivals on the Camino in November:

O Magosto – Ourense, Santiago de Compostela and across Galicia

O Magosto is the Galician way of welcoming winter and a true celebration of sweet chestnuts! Ourense, on the Via de la Plata Camino route, celebrates its public Magosto on 11th November, Saint Martin’s Day, but it is also celebrated in other towns and villages, big and small, across Galicia.

Cineuropa – Santiago de Compostela – 7th-29th November

Cineuropa is Santiago’s film event of the year since 1988. This classic film festival takes place in Santiago during the month of November every year, showcasing the best of national and international art-house pieces in its original version. Cineuropa is a real treat for movie and art-house cinema fans, so book early as tickets really go fast!

Santiago é Tapas – Santiago de Compostela | 14th-30th November

8th edition of Santiago é Tapas, the tapas competition where restaurateurs across the city compete to be crowned the best tapa-creators. Visitors will enjoy the best of local gastronomy at great prices, as participating restaurants will sell their innovative tapas at a set price of €2. You will be able to vote for your favourite snacks and, by stamping the Tapasporte (tapas passport!), you can also be in with a chance to win prizes.

Jazz in Lugo | 8th – 15th November

The city of Lugo, on the Original Way, has been hosting its jazz festival for 24 years. Visitors will enjoy many jazzy performances around the city.

BuscaSetas – Castilla y León | 10th-17th November

Mushroom lovers are in for a treat this month if travelling the Camino de Santiago across Castilla y León (Burgos all the way to Ponferrada on the French Way for example) as the region hosts its mushroom festival with over 200 participating restaurants.

Music Week, tapas and Melidefest in Melide | 15th – 24th November

Melide, on the last 100km of the French Way, hosts its annual music week in the parochial church, dedicated to Galicia’s traditional music. Expect plenty of bagpipe and colourful regional outfits. The buzzy market town also hosts the Melidefest focusing on Galician craft beer (23rd and 24th November) and its local tapas competition.
