"I booked with Camino Ways last February and had lots of questions which were answered promptly each time. The maps etc, were very useful and I bought the book by John Brierley to support our navigation along the well marked route. Only once did we stray off the path and that was because we were so captivated by a church and walked in the wrong direction, a local soon put us right , thankfully only a few hundred metres off the Camino. We had one hitch in Siguierio which was sorted out by the team very promptly. Pilgrim Passports and luggage labels were provided by the team as part of the package. I have nothing but praise for the outstanding team that makes up Camino Ways and will definitely book with them again."

Camino Ingles from Ferrol Last 100km

The Camino Ingles from Ferrol Last 100km (or Camino English Way) was traditionally the preferred route for pilgrims coming from the British Isles and Ireland on their way to Santiago de Compostela, hence its name. Pilgrims used to arrive by boat at the ports of Ferrol or A Coruña, and they would then continue their journey to Santiago on foot. They would follow a trail along the rugged coastline, passing historic towns such as Pontedeume and Betanzos, before continuing inland across the green countryside and woodlands of rural Galicia on their way to Santiago de Compostela and its famous cathedral.

The coastal city of Ferrol is also hosting to one of the most important Easter festivals in Galicia: Semana Santa de Ferrol (pictured). If you are travelling in Spring, make sure you catch some of the impressive processions taking place during ‘Holy Week’. This route has excellent reviews with many 5 star ratings. Ferrol

You arrive in Ferrol.

Pontedeume

From here the track continues to meet the Way of O Salto and at the banks of the Eume estuary you will join the Camino Real or Royal Way. There is a lovely beach at A Magdalena, which is a great spot to rest and relax.

Betanzos

From Pontedeume the trail climbs up to give spectacular views over Betanzos, Ares and Ferrol. The trail continues on to Miño by way of a medieval stone bridge over the Baxoi river and the Camino Real once again. You will then travel along the coast to the wide estuary of the Lambre river on a path that holds beautiful views of the Rias de Betanzos and the surrounding marshlands. The town of Betanzos has some of the most interesting and artisitic, historical buildings in Galicia.

Bruma-Meson do Vento

During that day you will cross the Mendo River by way of the ancient bridge of As Cascas. From here the trail passes the villages of Matino and Boucello. You will pass the hermitage of San Paio, which is abandoned and travel through agricultural lands to the village of Bruma which is the site of a medieval hospital.

Sigüeiro

The Camino leaves Bruma from the chapel and heads into the lovely green area of Ordes. You will then pass the church of San Xiao and the village of Casanova on your way to Sigüeiro.

Take time to explore this gem of a city, small and vibrant. Santiago de Compostela UNESCO listed old town will enchant you. Here you will find not only pilgrims but also locals and students, enjoying a few bites and glasses of wine in the many bars, restaurants and cosy cafes.

We have hand-picked hotels and guesthouses along the Camino for their character and warm hospitality. Up to 3-stars, you will be staying in the centre of town and close to your Camino trail. All rooms are en-suite with bathroom.

For our family packages, we have hand-picked establishments with outdoor space and swimming pools where possible. Where accommodation with private outdoor space is not available, we have selected comfortable hotels with spacious common areas as well as a convenient location close to recreational areas and sights. As your comfort is our priority, we try to book hotels located within walking distance of the Camino. Despite our effort, on rare occasions your accommodation can be located a few kilometers away from the trail, so we organise transportation to/from your accommodation.

Ferrol

A Coruña Airport 45km: In A Coruña, there is a bus connecting the airport and the train station (Line 443 stop: “Avenida A. Molina”) (departing every 30 min). See www.autoscalpita.com.
There is a direct train connection between A Coruña (main train station) and Ferrol (5 times/ day, 1h20). See www.renfe.com.

Santiago de Compostela Airport 85km: There is a shuttle bus from/to Santiago-Lavacolla airport to Santiago city, departing every 30min. Bus stops are. e.g., the bus station (Estación de Autobuses), the train station (Estación de Ferrocarril) or the city centre (Plaza de Galicia). See www.empresafreire.com. There is a direct bus from Santiago (Bus Station) to Ferrol (Estación de Autobuses de Ferrol) (7 times/ day, taking 1h30). See: horarios.monbus.es.

Vigo Airport 180km: From Vigo airport you can take a local bus to Travesia de Vigo (every 30 min) and then take a bus to Ferrol (5 times a day) or a train from nearby Vigo Guixar train station to A Coruña (where you can take a train or bus from A Coruña to Ferrol) Approximate travel time is 4 hours. Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela Airport 11km: There is shuttle bus from Santiago city centre to the airport, departing every 30min. Bus stops are: city centre (Plaza de Galicia), train station (Estación de Ferrocarril) and bus station (Estación de Autobuses). See: www.empresafreire.com.

Vigo Airport 90km: From Santiago you can take a train to Vigo Guixar (see www.renfe.com) or a bus to Travesia de Vigo (every hour). You should then take a city bus from Travesia de Vigo to Vigo Airport (every 30 min).

A Coruna Airport 70km: From Santiago you can take a train to A Coruña (30 min approximately) and then take a bus from Alfonso Molina (line 4051) to the airport (every 30 min, takes 20 min approximately). Monbus has services from Santiago to A Coruña Airport (every 3 hours), see monbus.es/en for details.

Porto Airport 210km: There is a direct bus connection between Santiago (Estación de Autobuses) and Porto airport once or twice a day (taking 4h or 6h resp.). See www.alsa.es.

Accommodation: We aim to book you into each of the towns listed on the itinerary, however in case of low availability we may book you 2 nights in the same town with provided transfers.
