2012 04 – Camino Statistics for the month of April

camino-statistics-caminowaysDuring the month of April 2012 14.753 pilgrims were received at the Pilgrim’s Office. The number of pilgrims in the past Holy Year, 2010, during the same period was 19.587. Of those pilgrims, 6.492 (44,00%) were women and 8.261 (56,00%) men. 12.721 (86,23%) pilgrims arrived on foot, 1.958 (13,27%) by bicycle, 73 (0,49%) on horseback, and 1 (0,01%) pilgrims on wheel-chair.

Pilgrims’ Age:

4.738 pilgrims were younger than 30 years old (32,12%), 8.200 were between 30 and 60 years old (55,58%), and 1.815 were aged above 60 years old (12,30%).

Pilgrims’ Motivation:

Religious: 5.683 (38,52%)
Religious and Cultural: 8.032 (54,44%)
Cultural: 1.038 (7,04%).

Pilgrims’ Nationality:

Spanish: 7.327 (49,66%); Most of the pilgrims came from Madrid, con 1.373 (18,74%); Cataluña, con 963 (13,14%); Galicia, con 933 (12,73%); Comunidad Valenciana, con 774 (10,56%); Andalucía, con 753 (10,28%); Castilla León, con 656 (8,95%); Castilla la Mancha, con 347 (4,74%); Pais Vasco, con 315 (4,30%); etc.
Foreigners: 7.426 (50,34%); Most of the pilgrims come from the following countries: Portugal, con 1.594 (21,47%); Alemania, con 1.321 (17,79%); Francia, con 592 (7,97%); Italia, con 512 (6,89%); Estados Unidos, con 387 (5,21%); Reino Unido, con 277 (3,73%); Irlanda, con 275 (3,70%); Canadá, con 173 (2,33%); etc.

Pilgrims’ Profession:

Regarding the professional fields, the majority of pilgrims are Empleados: 3.305 (22,40%); Estudiantes: 2.985 (20,23%); Tecnicos: 2.099 (14,23%); Liberales: 1.433 (9,71%); Jubilados: 1.341 (9,09%); Profesores: 1.292 (8,76%); Funcionarios: 656 (4,45%); Obreros: 548 (3,71%); etc.

Most of the pilgrims received in this period started their Way to Santiago in: Sarria: 3.936 (26,68%); Oporto: 963 (6,53%); S. Jean P. Port: 942 (6,39%); Cebreiro: 791 (5,36%); León: 669 (4,53%); Tui: 601 (4,07%); Roncesvalles: 584 (3,96%); Ponferrada: 582 (3,94%); etc.
