The second section of the Paris & Tours Camino de Santiago starts at the Sainte-Croix Cathedral in medieval Orléans and finishes in gorgeous Tours.

Pilgrims will follow the Loire, the longest river in France, and cross beautiful vineyards, fields and woodland on their way. On the Paris & Tours Camino to Santiago, you will be stopping in many amazing historic cities, such as Blois and Amboise (make sure you visit the impressive chateau!). You will also cross the Touraine region, famous for its white wine, a nice treat after a day’s walking.

This section of the Camino from Paris finishes in the city of Tours, with its stunning old town, where you should visit the St Martin Basilica and the city’s cathedral. Although sometime physically demanding, this section of the Paris & Tours Way only requires a reasonable level of fitness.

1 Orléans

Today, you will arrive in Orléans, where you can visit the many sites of this lovely medieval city on the Loire River.Pilgrims can enjoy immersing themselves in the local culture and becoming inspired by its energy.

2 Orléans to Beaugency - 29km

After breakfast, you will walk from the Sainte-Croix Cathedral in Orléans and continue along a bicycle path. You will follow the Loire, the longest river in France, until you arrive in Meung-sur-Loire. Here you can admire the Saint-Liphard church and the XII century castle. You will arrive in Beaugency where you will be staying. Here you should take some time to visit the Dunois castle.

3 Beaugency to Suèvres - 19km

Today you will leave Beaugency and walk along the Loire valley across the stunning countryside. The end of your walk for today is Suèvres, a charming little village where there are two churches to visit.

4 Suèvres to Blois - 14km

We have prepared a shorter walking stage for today, so you can spend some time to explore the city Blois. In Blois, you can visit the XIII century castle, the Saint-Louis Cathedral and the city gardens, illustrating 3 different periods: Middle Ages, Renaissance and Classic.

5 Blois to Chaumont-sur-Loire - 23km

Leaving Blois, you will cross the river and walk along fields and woodland. When you arrive in Candé-sur-Beuvron, you will cross the river again via a lovely medieval bridge. When you reach Chaumont-sur-Loire you can admire the beautiful castle overlooking the river.

6 Chaumont-sur-Loire to Amboise - 23km

Today’s stage includes very easy countryside walking. From Rilly-sur-Loire there are a number of species of birds to spot. You will discover the vineyards of Touraine before reaching Amboise. You can visit Château d’Amboise, one of the most beautiful castles in France and former royal residence; as well as the Clos Lucé mansion. The mansion is connected to the castle by an underground passage. Leonardo Da Vinci lived there for 3 years.

7 Amboise to Tours - 29.5km

Leaving Amboise, you will follow the river before reaching Vouvray, well known for its white wine. Then you will arrive in the historic town of Tours where you can explore it’s well preserved old city, visit the imposing Saint-Gatien cathedral and marvel at the Basilica of Saint-Martin.

After a great deal of the city was destroyed during the second world war, the medieval quarter has been restored over the years. The Cathedral St Gatien ranks among France’s finest. The presence of the University brings life to the ancient city.

How to get to Orléans:
From: Paris airports (135km)
You can travel between Paris (Gare d’Austerlitz) and Orleans (station “Centre” or “L’Aubrais”) by train, there is a good connection, taking approx. 1h. See www.voyages-sncf.com.
For the way from/to Orly airport, see www.aeroportsdeparis.fr.
From/ to CDG-airport from/to Paris d’Austerlitz: From the airport, take the RER train to St. Michel (Notre dame) (45min travel time). From this station, there is a metro (line 10) to Paris d’Austerlitz (10min). See www.aeroportsdeparis.fr .
The way between Orly and gare d’Austerlitz is linked with metro as well: Take the metro (line 10) to Pont de Rungis and then the shuttle bus to the airport. See www.aeroportsdeparis.fr.
From: Paris Beauvais airport (210km)
There are two options for travelling between the airport and Paris: The direct shuttle from/ to Paris (Porte Maillot) (see www.aeroportbeauvais.com). Porte Maillot is approx. 8km far apart from Gare d’Austerlitz. The way between Porte Maillot and Gare d’Austerlitz is linked with metro as well: Take the metro (line 1) to Bastille and then the (line 5) to the Gare d’Austerlitz. (40min travel time)
How to get back from Tours:
From: Tours airport (6km)
Bus connections from/to the airport are available when a Ryanair flight departs or arrives, seewww.tours.aeroport.fr.
From: Paris airports (220km) By train: you can take the regional trains or travel with the TGV. From Tours (station “Centre”) to Paris (Gare d’Austerlitz), you can take a regional train (taking approx. 2h) or the TGV – it only takes approx. 1h15 and departs/arrives at “Gare Montparnasse”.  See www.voyages-sncf.com.
