This holiday on the Camino de Santiago will let you enjoy all the comforts of our coach tours while still experiencing what it’s like to walk the Camino de Santiago. Each day will include an easy 1 and a half to 2 hour walk which will let you take in the atmosphere of the Camino.

The hotels, specially labelled “Unique places” have been selected by our team for their Character:with a special note for Leon: 16C Luxurious Monastery, Villafranca in a Parador, in Pambre in a spa hotel and in Santiago in a 4* hotel monastery, 200m from the cathedral, with swimming pool.

Through this tour we will wander on and off the Camino and visit the best of what we can see on and around the route, not been restricted by having to keep on the track, yet experiencing the best part of the walking and sightseeing.

This tour runs over 8 days/ 7 nights with dinner each night and lunch on your activity days.  All our tours have English speaking guides. The tour departs on specific dates from June to October which you can see below:

1 Leon

You will spend the night in a 3* hotel in the historic city centre. The group will meet the guide at 7pm for a tour briefing and the groups first dinner together.

2 Leon, Astorga, Rabanal and Ponferrada

Walk 1h30 – 6km: The day starts with a visit to León Cathedral and then short transfer to Astorga, where the group will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit Astorga’s fantastic ‘pink’ cathedral. You will then be driven to the Mountains of León where you will walk 10kms from Rabanal del Camino to the hamlet of Foncebadón, site of an old pilgrim’s hospital, and finally the famous Cruz de Ferro (Iron Cross at 1504m), the highest point on the Camino Francés and a very special stopping point for pilgrims. The group will be then transferred to Ponferrada, your stop for the night.

3 Ponferrada, Villafranca

Walk: 2h00 – 9km: Enjoy a morning tour of Ponferrada, including the impressive 13th century Templars Castle overlooking the river and the remarkable 16th century Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Encina. After lunch, you will walk in the Bierzo Valley, from the village of Cacabelos to lovely Villafranca del Bierzo, where you will spend the night.

4 Villafranca, O'ceibrero, Samos, Sarria

Walk: 1h45 – 8km: A short transfer will take the group to the picturesque mountain village of O Cebreiro with its ancient thatched stone cottages (known as ‘pallozas’). In this unique place you will enjoy some of the most spectacular views and scenery the Camino has to offer. The village church contains relics of a virgin saint and bear witness to a 16th century miracle. You will be walking the Camino from O Cebreiro, enjoying incredible views. The group will be stopping for lunch in Samos where you will have free time. You could visit the 16th century Samos Monastery or just relax after lunch. A short transfer will take the group to the town of Sarria, your stop for the night.

5 Sarria, Portomarin, Melide

Walk: 2h 8km: After a leisurely breakfast, the group will set off from the hotel to walk a stretch of the Camino. Sarria is the most popular starting point for Camino pilgrims and you will be joining them for 8kms walking to the village of Ferreiros. You will start with an easy ascent to a view point over Sarria and down into the woods following what Galicians call ‘corredoiras’, forest trails used by pilgrims and locals, through oak woods, so common in Galicia. After the walk, you will get a short transfer to Portomarín, where the group will have lunch. We have scheduled a short tour of the village to learn about its unique history. You will then be transferred to the market town of Melide where you will visit the 16th century church. Tonight, the group will stay in Melide.

6 Melide, Castle of Pambre, Lavacolla

Walk: 1h45 – 8km: After breakfast, you will get a transfer to Pambre to visit the local museum. After lunch, you the group will be walking 10kms from Rua to Lavacolla, a traditional last stop for pilgrims on their way to Santiago.

7 Walk from Lavacolla, Santiago

Walk: 2h 10km: On your last day, you will be walking the last stretch of the Camino into the city of Santiago. It is just 5 kms from Monte do Gozo, where you will catch your first glimpse of Santiago. The group should be reaching the famous Praza do Obradoiro and Santiago Cathedral in time to make the pilgrim mass at 12pm. After lunch you will have free time to explore this fantastic historic city. Overnight in a 4 star hotel in the city centre.

8 Santiago de Compostela

Today you will have a free day or half day to explore Santiago (depending on your flight time).

Madrid Airport 337km: trains takes 4h renfe, bus 4h30 Alsa.es

 

Asturias Airport 125km:  By bus 3h15, change in Oviedo Rome2Rio

 

Santiago de Compostela

 

Santiago de Compostela Airport 11km: There is shuttle bus from Santiago city centre to the airport, departing every 30min. Bus stops are: city centre (Plaza de Galicia),  train station (Estación de Ferrocarril) and bus station (Estación de Autobuses). See: www.empresafreire.com.

 

Vigo Airport 90km: From Santiago you can take a train to Vigo Guixar (see www.renfe.com) or a bus to Travesia de Vigo (every hour). You should then take a city bus from Travesia de Vigo to Vigo Airport (every 30 min).

 

A Coruna Airport 70km: From Santiago you can take a train to A Coruña (30 min approximately) and then take a bus from Alfonso Molina (line 4051) to the airport (every 30 min, takes 20 min approximately). Monbus has services from Santiago to A Coruña Airport (every 3 hours), see monbus.es/en for details.

 

Porto Airport 210km: There is a direct bus connection between Santiago (Estación de Autobuses) and Porto airport once or twice a day (taking 4h or 6h resp.). See www.alsa.es.
